"Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full."

The Air Force brigade is in town to protect President Obama. "Buzzing" the island happens about once every hour (yes at night too). The novelty of having them here is quickly beginning to wear off. There are a number of rumors as to why the squadron is in town, but it looks like Grenada is some sort of defensive staging site (the pile of missals at the airport kind of gave that part away). The F15's arrived about two weeks ago to secure our airport (and I use the word secure very lightly as you can see by the photos). The first island rumor claimed that Big Blue would be landing on Grenada because the Trinidad runaway was too short, and then Obama would hop on a helicopter to swoop down to the Summit .

Years ago, my father was heavily involved with the Clintons vacationing in Jackson Hole. I knew that Big Blue touched down at the Jackson Hole Airport just fine, so I doubted that Airforce One truly couldn't land in Trinidad. But on Friday, several of us were still hopeful we'd see the big, blue plane and clambered up a treacherous hillside, through thorny branches, to watch the show. This is what you do when you don't have cable or a local news station. We were not alone. Several local families were out to observe the fighter jets. Perhaps you can see now why we scoffed a bit at the word "secure".
